BC Boat & Sportsmen's Show / BC Hunting Show 2016
Abbotsford, BC – Throughout the weekend, outdoor enthusiasts flocked to BC’s largest boating, fishing, hunting and sportsmen’s event. The 2016 editions of the BC Boat & Sportsmen’s Show and the BC Hunting Show took place March 4-6, 2016 at Tradex in Abbotsford.
Overall attendance was up slightly over 2015 numbers, with 33,946 visitors over the three-day event. Alongside tens of thousands of shoppers looking for great deals were those interested in displays of boating, fishing, hunting and outdoors supplies, demos, door prizes and educational sessions.
The Cabala’s PRO Hunting and Fishing Stages were popular spots at the event. Dean Partridge, Tammy Wood, Phil Rowley, Richard Kesslar, Linda Cline, Mike Kelly and more captivated visitors with informative and entertaining stage presentations.
One of the other main attractions this year was the Measures Booth. On the opening day of the show, the booth scored a Roosevelts Elk that not only beat the current world record score, but smashed it. The standing world record for Roosevelts Elk is 404 6/8” and this bull scored 419 6/8”, beating the current record by a full 15”.
“To say this set of antlers caused quite a stir with the crowd would be an understatement,” said Rick Berreth, Measures Booth. &aldquo; Our booth and area was always full of people coming to see them. I have always told the other measurers that aone day something will come to us that will not only blow our minds but the records as well, and this is the year it happened! Hopefully next year we will see more trophies like this show up at the Measures Booth.”
This year marked the 25th anniversary of the BC Boat & Sportsmen’s Show, with the BC Hunting Show in its 13th year. Together, the two shows completely took over the Tradex complex with over 250 exhibitors and seminars, including fly tying demonstrations and wide variety of outdoor products and services.
“It was a great year for both shows, especially with the milestone celebration for the Boat & Sportsmen’s Show,” said Les Trendall, Show Manager. “Saturday was a banner day by all accounts. The weather cooperated and we were thrilled that a new world record was set at the Measures Booth!”
Exhibitors love coming to these two long running events, especially because visitors come to shop; on average, roughly 75% of show visitors make a purchase!
“Great show, we’re still on a high from the great results!” said Brendan Keys, GA Checkpoint. “Visitors showed lots of interest in the welded heavy gauge aluminum boats, and people were happy to have such a great selection of boats to do some comparison shopping. We found that consumers came prepared to make a commitment, so we had some great retail success. If the show is any indication of consumer confidence, I’m sure we’re all going to have a great selling season. See you next year!”
The BC Wildlife Federation also had a great time at the show this year. “Our volunteers deserve an enormous pat on the back; without them, we would not have the ability to participate in large events like the BC Hunting Show. This year’s show was by far the most successful we’ve had in recent memory. All of the proceeds from our rifle raffle will go back to supporting our conservation programs and initiatives. Congratulations to the winner of the Sako Bavarian raffle, Aidan Glaister of Chilliwack, BC.”
“We had an awesome time at the show,” said Charlie Clark, Wild Art. “Everything was organized top notch and the area we were located in was perfect. We would love to be back next year in an even larger booth!”
“Thank you for having us at the show this year!” said Walter Rawlinson, Team 3000 Realty / BC Placer Gold Claims. “Our booth was super busy the whole time and we sold quite a bit of gold prospecting equipment! Please put us down again for next year!”
“This was another successful show for us,” said Anne Philley, BC Lodging & Campgrounds Association. “Attendance was amazing. Mark us down for next year in our usual spot!”
