Eastern Canadian Fisheries Exposition

The 2011 Eastern Canadian Fisheries Exposition a Success!

Yarmouth, NS- Fishermen from all over the Maritimes plotted a course for the Mariners Centre and the Eastern Canadian Fisheries Exposition (ECFE) and were not left disappointed.

Show management are happy to announce that attendance numbers were on par with previous years and reports that retail on the floor was brisk with exhibitors walking away with many sales and solid leads to follow up on for the upcoming season and beyond.

Exhibitors and attendees alike were pleased with event. Over 100 exhibitors displayed the newest and most innovative commercial fisheries products and services, which intrigued visitors and helped them to make decisions about new, efficient product purchases.

Exhibitors reported good sales activity with many solid leads to follow up on in the coming months.

“The show was well organized and attendance was excellent! A very good indicator of better times in the fishing industry.  Sales were good and we expect more orders to follow!” says David Trott, Manager of Sales for Seamasters Services Limited.

We would like to thank the Honourable Sterling Belliveau, the Nova Scotia Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, for taking time out of his busy schedule to attend the event and addressing the crowd.

It was also a pleasure to share the spotlight with the Yarmouth 250 committee, which are organizing a year long schedule of events to celebrate Yarmouth’s 250th birthday. Many thanks go out to Mayor Mooney for greeting visitors and serving refreshments in the lounge.

The exhibitor reception at the Rodd Grand was well attended and enabled exhibitors to relax after a busy day on the show floor.

The second Biennial Industry Achievement awards were also handed out during the reception. The winners were individuals who have contributed to the betterment of the industry, be it through volunteering or other outstanding contributions to their community and to the fishing industry.  Selecting the winners of this award was a daunting task, as over a dozen high caliber nominations were received.

Dick Stewart from Yarmouth was the first place finisher. The runners-up were Hubert Saulnier from Saulnierville and Jean Guy d’Entremont from Pubnico.

Again, we would like to congratulate these leaders of the industry and look forward to receiving nominations for the 2013 awards.

We are now looking towards the horizon and a positive future for this industry.  Stay tuned for the 2013 dates for this high caliber event!
