Moncton, NB – Thousands of exhibitors and attendees from across Canada and the US congregated in Moncton on May 7 & 8 for MEET 2014 – the Mechanical Electrical Electronic Technology Show.
The number of buyers was up 8% over the previous show, with over 6,200 people in attendance. Held biennially, MEET is the largest trade event east of Montreal and the nation’s second largest overall.
“MEET has proven itself to be one of the top industry events in Canada,” said Show Manager Shawn Murphy. “This year’s edition was a great success. Attendance was up, our seminar series was well attended, the industry dinner was a huge hit, and our Innovation Awards recognized some truly cutting-edge products.”
SKILLS CANADA NB COMPETITION
As part of the 2014 edition of the show, MEET hosted the Plumbing; Electrical Installation; and Refrigeration & Air Conditioning portions of the Skills Canada NB Competition. These three challenges served as provincial qualifiers for the Skills Canada National Competition, the largest national multi-trade and technology competition for Canadian students and apprentices, which takes place in Toronto next month.
This year, New Brunswick is expected to send a team of more than 30 students. Congratulations to the following winners of the competitions that took place on site at MEET 2014:

MEET INDUSTRY DINNER & INAUGURAL MEET SHOW RECOGNITION AWARD
Industry members came together at the Delta Beauséjour Hotel for an evening of networking, entertainment and a delicious meal. The event included a performance by comedian Matthew DiSero, as well as the presentation of the MEET Show Recognition Award. This special award was created to honour a committee member or another individual who has positively impacted and made significant contributions to the MEET Show.
The inaugural recipient of the MEET Show Recognition Award is Ralph Smith, an icon in the Electrical Engineering and Lighting community, not only in New Brunswick, but across Atlantic Canada. Ralph played a major role in establishing the very first MEET Show in 1986 and chaired the committee for many years. His various show committee roles have been a key part of the MEET Show’s continued success.
