This is in part due to our new marketing initiatives. Pre-registration was up 26% this year, which is a sure indication that exhibitors are taking advantage of the pass program and AG associations were receptive to these efforts as well. Farmers came out to the show and they were in the mood to do business; a sure sign that things are looking up in the AG Industry. Many exhibitors reported brisk sales and many solid leads to follow up on in the coming months.

Interviews that were conducted with visitors during the show indicated that the Canadian International Farm Show is the event that they visit to buy or research their upcoming product and equipment purchases.

The expanded educational program sponsored by Better Farming Magazine was very well attended with many producers excited to learn more about renewable energy and succession planning, just to name a few…these sessions were always packed and we look forward to continuing to offer timely and relevant sessions in 2013.

The door to door motor coach program was a hit with visitors and exhibitors alike. 650 people arrived on buses during the three day stretch including two new buses that were added to the program this year. On top of this, show management welcomed a motor coach with a contingent of farmers on tour from Finland. Any exhibitors wondering how to get involved in this program for 2013 can contact show management.

The opening night exhibitor reception was well attended and was the venue for the presentation of the Producer of the Year Awards. This award is a small token to show appreciation for the selfless and far reaching response that the company took during the devastating flooding in Charlotte County in December of 2010 and continues even today.

The December 13 and 14th flooding resulted in hundreds of claims to the Canadian Red Cross province wide and the Emergency Measures Organization estimated damage to homes at 50 million dollars; 256 of these claimants were in Charlotte County and 21 suffered catastrophic damage.

Corporate response to this disaster was “unprecedented” and became a starting point for all other volunteer activity. Cooke Aquaculture did not leave this disaster unscathed; damage to their hatcheries was in excess of more than 3 million, but thankfully, they saved all of their fish.

In excess of 60 employees of Cooke Aquaculture were active in the relief effort. CEO of Cooke Aquaculture, Glenn Cooke, has praised his employees and was proud of their efforts to utilize boats to rescue countless individuals and to deliver food and supplies. During a community gathering, Cooke once again said there was never a hesitation to get involved. “This was our responsibility. It’s neighbors and friends helping our people when they needed it. This flood happened in our town and to our people. There was no question of us getting involved,” Glenn Cooke, CEO of Cooke Aquaculture at a community gathering.

Their involvement continued long after the waters receded. In conjunction with J.D. Irving Limited, Cooke Aquaculture spearheaded efforts to get those hit hardest by the flooding, those who had lost everything, into new homes in a new subdivision.

“Charlotte County is home to many in the fishing and aquaculture industry that this event caters to,” explains Show Manager Shawn Murphy. “To recognize Cooke Aquaculture and all of their employees for their courageous efforts during those dark days for so many, was a simple decision and we are proud to do this,” said Murphy.

Mike Cooke, of Cooke Aquaculture, will be presented with this award at the Fish Canada/Workboat Canada Show at 6:00 pm at the Moncton Coliseum. AGCO allowed for this project to happen with their donation of a beautiful Massey Ferguson 1660 Tractor. Connect Equipment will be presenting Professor Varty at the Show and welcome everyone to visit their booth to see the latest equipment from Massey Ferguson, as well as the actual tractor that Varty is driving across the country along with his cabin.

The professor, along with his fiance, Molly Daley, are driving from PEI to Victoria, BC, in their tractor and wooden house to speak with farmers, politicians and everyone in between about farming and food production in Canada. So far, Varty has logged 340 hours on his Massey Ferguson 1660 -- covering approximately 3500 kilometers and will be driving the unit to the farm show in February, doing interviews and talking to farmers along the way. Varty is taking a year off from teaching for this project that aims to chronicle how and why agriculture production has changed in Canada as farmers work to meet the demands of growing populations.

He's also pulling a wooden house, where he lives with Daley while on the road. The two started their journey in July, and have decided to take a detour after Sudbury to avoid dangerously cold weather. Rather than continuing North, the two will head to Ottawa, where they'll do research for the film until spring and meet and greet the expected 20 thousand farmers that will attend the Canadian International Farm Show at the International Centre in Mississauga, Ontario.

Eventually, they hope to make a documentary that focuses on local farmers and food production issues. Some of these stories include increasing land value and pressures like urban and suburban sprawl.

Visit Professor Varty across from the Connect Equipment booth in Hall 3. This popular event has been running in Charlottetown every two years since 1992. Over the years, this has become a must-attend industry event for potato farmers from across the Island, while attracting visitors from as far away as Manitoba and the United States.

“Booth sales are going nicely this year and this venue is still a winner, as PEI and potatoes are synonymous with each other. We are excited to return to the Island for this event to showcase the latest equipment, products and services available to the region’s potato producers,” says Show Manager, Rob Etmanski.

2012 is expected to be a good year for exports, which bodes well for all Maritime potato producers and especially Prince Edward Island, because the agri-food sector continues to account for the lion's share of PEI's exports, and the sector is forecast to rebound with 8 per cent growth this year, followed by a further 5 per cent gain in 2012.

"PEI's export rebound is supported by gains in all key sub-sectors, and the reviving U.S economy suggests stronger demand and higher prices, bolstering the value of the province's foreign sales," said Peter Hall, Chief Economist for EDC. "Sales to non-traditional markets have also gained traction, which speaks to improved diversification to fast-paced emerging markets."

The same report indicated that the pricing and demand environment in the first half of this year will be favourable for producers of processed and table potatoes, as reduced supply in other parts of the world, including California's frost-affected desert crop, drive up prices and demand for PEI produce. In the second half of 2011, global production will recover, dampening demand and pricing into 2012. While the U.S. is still the primary market, PEI is seeing growth potential from the Caribbean this year.

The International Potato Technology Expo is in the planning stages of its extensive educational component and other developments are in the works and will be rolled out in the near future.

This year’s show will boasts over 100 booths filling the entire Charlottetown Civic Centre and will encompass everything from seed to soil to growing to harvesting. You will see the latest from the manufacturers of harvesters, sprayers, pilers, cultivators, storage and climatization technology, tractors, bagging machinery, seed cutters, the very latest in plant genetics, research and the list goes on….

To keep up to date on the latest development, visit www.potatoexpo.ca

Media Inquiries:

Denise Miller, Publicist

Master Promotions Ltd.

dmiller@mpltd.ca

1-888-454-7469
Tue, 08 Nov 2011 10:43:37 -0500 http://www.masterpromotions.ca/news/north-america-s-leading-potato-expo-returns-to-prince-edward-island-in-2012/ The Canadian International Farm Show Launches New Feature http://www.masterpromotions.ca/news/the-canadian-international-farm-show-launches-new-feature/
The 2012 Canadian International Farm Show Presents All-New Renewable Energy Feature

For Immediate Release

November 4, 2011

Mississauga, ON – Canada’s largest indoor farm show, The Canadian International Farm Show is pleased to launch an exciting new feature at the event February 7-9, 2012 at the International Centre in Mississauga.

A portion of Hall 5 will be transformed into the Renewable Energy Feature.

Planning for the 2012 Edition of Expo Grands Travaux is Full Steam Ahead!

For Immediate Release

October 25, 2011

Montreal, QC- Organizers of Expo Grands Travaux recently met with several of the key players of the heavy equipment industry at the CAED Quebec Chapter dinner meeting in Montreal to discuss the upcoming event and to announce some new features. The CAED Quebec Chapter initiated this meeting to allow Master Promotions the opportunity to connect with industry leaders and local industry associations.

In attendance were some of the most recognizable names in the industry including representatives from the leading equipment manufacturers, dealers, associations and media publications.

Mark Cusack, Executive Show Manager for Expo Grands Travaux, was present as the guest speaker to give a show update. Cusack indicated that the event is selling extremely well, even though we are still five months before the event. He also introduced several new Show Features, including the new Winter Management Show, sponsored by L’Écho du Transport magazine. This feature is co-locating with Expo Grands Travaux. The province of Quebec is no stranger to old man winter and this section of the show will definitely be of interest to municipalities, airports, property managers and private contractors. It will be a one-stop-shopping centre for products, services, equipment and technology used in snow & ice removal and winter operations. There will also be a strong educational component, endorsed and presented by SIMA, the Snow and Ice Management Association.

Another exciting addition is the “Recruiting Here” feature, which is designed to attract operators, mechanics and other skilled trades to Olympic Stadium for two days, in search of new employment opportunities. Many companies are on the hunt for these skilled trades’ people and will have their Human Resources representatives present to collect resumes and to showcase employment opportunities. This feature has been extremely popular in some of our other Heavy Equipment trade shows and we are excited to offer it in Montreal at Expo Grands Travaux.

Comments from those present at the luncheon were positive and the excitement is building in anticipation of April 13-14, 2012, as Olympic Stadium in Montreal will play host to Eastern Canada’s largest heavy equipment show, Expo Grands Travaux! Nearly 13,000 visitors came through the doors during the last edition and organizers are expecting an even larger turnout in 2012!

For complete details, please visit www.

CASE, Yanmar, Doosan, Komatsu, CAT, Liebherr, New Holland, Link Belt, Kawasaki, Deere, Kobelco, Volvo, Sennebogen, Hitachi, JCB, Terex et plusieurs autres…

Tue, 27 Sep 2011 08:33:57 -0400 http://www.masterpromotions.ca/news/de-grands-noms-de-gros-equipements-un-vaste-public-expo-grands-travaux-est-de-retour-les-13-et-14-avril-2012-et-sera-l-hote-du-salon-de-la-gestion-hivernale/ BIG NAMES, BIG EQUIPMENT, BIG AUDIENCE Expo Grands Travaux Returns April 13-14, 2012, featuring the Winter Management Show http://www.masterpromotions.ca/news/big-names-big-equipment-big-audience-expo-grands-travaux-returns-april-13-14-2012-featuring-the-winter-management-show/
For Immediate Release

Olympic Stadium in Montreal will host one of Eastern Canada’s largest heavy equipment shows, Expo Grands Travaux! For the first time in the show’s history an International Tractor will be showcased; The International W400 D.

International Harvester Company (IHC or IH) was a United States agricultural machinery, construction equipment, vehicle, commercial truck, and household and commercial products manufacturer. In 1902, J.P. Morgan merged the McCormick Harvesting Machine Company and Deering Harvester Company, along with three smaller agricultural equipment firms, to form International Harvester. International Harvester sold off its agricultural division in 1985 and renamed the company Navistar International Corporation in 1986. Case IH was formed when the agricultural division merged with J.I. Case.

The W400 was manufactured by International Harvester from June of 1955 until 1956. The tractor was originally called the International 400 but later the decision was made to rename it to W400 in order to bring it closer to the McCormick “W” series that it replaced and to designate it as a wheatland model.

The W400 replaced the SWD6 and was replaced by the 450. The tractor’s 4-cylinder diesel engine had 264 cubic inches and produced 47 hp on the drawbar. There were 1118 diesel W400 diesel tractors built. This model was also produced with propane and gasoline engines. The original price on this unit was $3400. There will also be an actual life-size version of this tractor for viewing at the show.

The scale model replica toy tractor will be available only at the Canadian International Farm Show during show hours. The cost is $80.00, taxes included.

February 7-9, 2012, the 26th edition of the Canadian International Farm Show returns to the International Centre in Mississauga and will be showcasing all the leaders of Canada’s thriving AG market.

“Hundreds of exhibitors will encompass massive space in the International Centre,” said Show Manager, Rob Etmanski. “Visitors to the show will surely be impressed by what they see when they come through the doors,” said Etmanski. “Producers will be on the hunt for the latest, most innovative products and equipment available to help them run their AG operations more efficiently, and they will find all that and more at the Canadian International Farm Show,” said Etmanski.

The Producer of the Year Awards will be presented in February at the exhibitor reception on the opening night of the show, which will bid tribute to a group or Agribusiness that has contributed to the betterment of the industry. So it was good to hear from fishermen in northeastern New Brunswick in July who said they were generally satisfied with the season of 2011.

Catch rates in the lobster fishery were good and although prices were still off their traditional highs, they were better than last year. The shrimp fishermen were reporting satisfactory catches too and with a considerable increase in prices from 2010, shrimpers were contented as well.

But the snow crab fishermen seemed to be the happiest. That’s because they had a couple of bonuses this year. In a realignment of quota distributions, crab fishermen in the Caraquet, Shippagan and Bay of Chaleur areas picked up additional crab quota that gave them an average of approximately 100,000 lbs. per boat. The season started with lots of uncertainty, especially in the Japanese market. A devastating earthquake and tsunami rocked the country in March, killing thousands of people and causing billions of dollars damage. Atlantic Canadians were not sure whether the effects of the devastation would reduce or increase demand. In the end, Japanese demand increased considerably and Atlantic crab sellers did well. In northeast New Brunswick, where snow crab is known for its high quality, the Japanese turn of events meant fishermen were getting a minimum of $3.50 per lb., over $1.25 more than last year's values.

The better than average year is good news all around for the industry. When fishermen have a good year, they spend more money shortly afterwards in repairs and upgrades that, in many cases, have been overdue, because of previous bad years. They buy new fishing gear and equipment and generally spruce up their vessels.

A good year for fishermen also translates in an upcoming good year for companies who supply fishing enterprises. Companies that sell marine engines, hydraulics, electronics and other goods and services all keep a very close eye on the fishing season and order their fall and winter supplies accordingly. In northeast New Brunswick, some of those companies are already on the phone to their suppliers. The timing could not be better for the return of Fish Canada Workboat Canada to the Moncton Coliseum February 3-4, 2012.

This is one of the most well attended events in the area and ties in well with the Maritimes’ long and proud history of commercial fishing and working on the water.

Fish Canada Workboat Canada caters to all those that work on or around the water, including boats, supplies and services and safety equipment for:

Offshore service vessels

Supply boats

Commercial fishing and aquaculture operations

Law enforcement,

Fire and rescue,

Tour and dive boats.

The Maritime region contains an increasingly viable fishing industry, reinforcing the important role of this event.

In fact, the Scotia-Fundy commercial fishing industry is worth 40% more today than it was a decade ago. This creates more than 30,000 direct and indirect jobs, including approximately 13,000 full and part-time fishers in the Scotia-Fundy Commercial Fishery, operating approximately 4,750 fishing vessels.

Mark your calendars for February 3-4, 2012. We are honoured to be able to give back to the future of Ontario’s thriving agriculture industry.

“Thank you very much for all of the time and effort that the Canadian International Farm Show and Master Promotions Ltd. have put into making the 'Youth in Agriculture' bursaries available. It is very encouraging to see organizations within the agriculture industry showing a keen interest in its youth. I feel honoured to be a chosen recipient of this prestigious award,” said Alan Nanne.

Alan is currently attending the University of Guelph, majoring in Honours Agriculture. Upon graduation, he plans on traveling to learn new, innovative approaches to agriculture and see different ways of farming around the world, specifically within the dairy industry. Down the road, his ultimate goal would be to own a dairy farm. In the meantime, he plans to continue to breed and develop purebred Holsteins. Alan grew up in Pakenham (Lanark County) and went to school in Arnprior

Our second recipient is Rachel Jebson. She lives on a dairy farm just outside of Sunderland, Ontario, with her family. They milk 40 cows in a tie-stall barn and, together with her father, partake in their hobby which is showing cows.

Rachel has shown cows ever since she can remember, first in pre-4H and then as a member of 4-H. Through 4-H, she has taken on and enjoyed many leadership opportunities such as president of several clubs, and as a youth leader in the dairy club. The most memorable moment of her 4-H career so far was at the 2010 Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, Youth Classic 4-H Competition, where she showed her Holstein project Elmcroft Attic Lady and placed 5th, and her county team was Reserve Grand Champion. After she completes her agriculture diploma at Kemptville College, she plans to go home to her family farm and work with her dad breeding high producing and show winning Holsteins.

“Once again, thanks for the opportunities you are providing! Thank-you so much for sponsoring this awesome opportunity! Chances like the ones provided here don't come very often and I feel so lucky,” said Jebson.

We would like to thank the Junior Farmers’ Association of Ontario for their assistance in administering and organizing a selection committee to determine the winners of these awards.

We are now looking forward to the 2012 edition of the Canadian International Farm Show that is scheduled for February 7-9, 2012 at the International Centre in Mississauga, Ontario. Gestion Solifor Inc., a forest asset management company under the solidarity fund QFL, has offered to host the event on one of its properties, La Seignurie de Perthuis, located just 75 km from Quebec City.

This world class event, occurring only every four years, will mark the 12th edition of DEMO International®. During the course of its 40 year history, DEMO International® has evolved into one of North America s largest and unique outdoor equipment shows.

The all live and in action, in-woods equipment show will attract over 150 exhibitors featuring the latest technologies in equipment, products and services covering all aspects of woodlands operations, from silviculture and harvesting practices, road construction, biomass harvesting, recovery and transportation systems, and private woodland management.

The timing couldn t be better for this event. The conference board of Canada has indicated that there is a turning point in the world economies and wood product industries will return to the black in 2010. This is in part due to the 30 percent increase in housing starts predicted for this fiscal year. This is a boon for soft wood lumber producers in Canada.

Attracting any and all individuals interested in forestry from around the world, past DEMO International® shows have seen anywhere from 5,000 16,000 attendees. The 2012 show will be no different with hotels in and around Quebec City booking up with international guests. Solifor manages nearly 160,000 hectares of woodlands located throughout Quebec to meet multiple timber use objectives and ensure sustainable management of its forest resource land base. Situated in one of Solifor s sustainably managed forested blocks co-owned with Scierie Dion, the 29,000 hectare Perthuis woodlot provides an ideal location and forested venue for an event of the scope of DEMO International® 2012, all within hardly an hour s drive of Quebec City.

In addition, the Canadian Woodlands Forum is pleased to announce that they will work once again with Master Promotions Ltd., Canada s Largest Independent Trade and Consumer Event Management Company, who will provide professional management services on behalf of the CWF.

The CWF is a non-profit organization recognized for its commitment to effective, quality woodlands operations in support of sustainable forest management. The CWF has 500 members across Canada specializing in forestry-related industries.

For more information on DEMO International 2012, please contact us.
Thu, 16 Jun 2011 09:00:19 -0400 http://www.masterpromotions.ca/news/demo-international-2012/ Canadian International Farm Show Bursaries Awarded http://www.masterpromotions.ca/news/canadian-international-farm-show-bursaries-awarded/

Saint John, NB - Owners of the Canadian International Farm Show (CIFS) are pleased to announce the presentation of the show’s Youth in Agriculture Bursaries.

We would like to congratulate Ashley Knapton and Henry Reuben Dejong for each receiving a $2500.00 educational bursary presented by the Canadian International Farm Show; Canada’s Largest Indoor Farm Show.

Ashley Knapton is from Almonte, ON and is in her first year of a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture program, majoring in Honours at the University of Guelph.

Ashley mentions that some of her interests are hockey and cows and she has been an active participant of the Lanyark County’s 4-H Program.
