Connect Equipment Presents Professor John Varty at the Canadian International Farm Show

For Immediate Release

Professor Varty is currently making his way across Canada in a Massey Ferguson 1660 while filming a documentary on agriculture in Canada.

Mississauga, ON – An Ontario university professor is making a trek across the nation to give a voice to farmers and make their issues known.  He will be receiving them, listening to their concerns and hearing about their accomplishments at Canada’s largest indoor farm show, the Canadian International Farm Show, February 7-9, 2012.

Varty is sponsored by AGCO and the Massey Ferguson Company. AGCO allowed for this project to happen with their donation of a beautiful Massey Ferguson 1660 Tractor. Connect Equipment will be presenting Professor Varty at the Show and welcome everyone to visit their booth to see the latest equipment from Massey Ferguson, as well as the actual tractor that Varty is driving across the country along with his cabin.

The professor, along with his fiance, Molly Daley, are driving from PEI to Victoria, BC, in their tractor and wooden house to speak with farmers, politicians and everyone in between about farming and food production in Canada. So far, Varty has logged 340 hours on his Massey Ferguson 1660 -- covering approximately 3500 kilometers and will be driving the unit to the farm show in February, doing interviews and talking to farmers along the way. Varty is taking a year off from teaching for this project that aims to chronicle how and why agriculture production has changed in Canada as farmers work to meet the demands of growing populations.

He's also pulling a wooden house, where he lives with Daley while on the road. The two started their journey in July, and have decided to take a detour after Sudbury to avoid dangerously cold weather. Rather than continuing North, the two will head to Ottawa, where they'll do research for the film until spring and meet and greet the expected 20 thousand farmers that will attend the Canadian International Farm Show at the International Centre in Mississauga, Ontario.

Eventually, they hope to make a documentary that focuses on local farmers and food production issues. Some of these stories include increasing land value and pressures like urban and suburban sprawl.

Visit Professor Varty across from the Connect Equipment booth in Hall 3. While you are there, check out the new offerings from Connect Equipment including the new Fendt 800 series and the Massey Ferguson 7600 series.
